今日は、現在挑戦中のクラウドファンディングで支援を届ける活動地である、
ケニア共和国ホマベイ群のビタについてご紹介します。
みなさまからいただくご支援がどのようなところに届くのか、
お伝えしたい思います。
ホマベイ群はアフリカ最大の湖であるヴィクトリア湖に面していて、
ビタでも漁業が盛んに営まれています。
そのほかには、農業、家畜の飼育、小さなビジネス、
また薪や木炭売りによって暮らしている人がいます。
この地域の課題としては、
-HIV感染率が高いこと
-孤児を抱える家庭が多いこと
-浄水・下水の開発が進んでいないこと
が挙げられます。
ホマベイ群はケニアで最もHIV感染率が高い地域であり、
15歳以上の感染率は25.7％にも上ります。
HIV/エイズなどによって影響を受ける子どもたちの数は、
2012年の時点では、人口約100万人に対して約11万人といわれます。
孤児を抱える家庭はホマベイ群に6万家庭あり、
人口が同じぐらいの他の地域と比べても孤児が多い地域です。
また、ビタでは浄水と下水の開発が他の地域に比べて遅れていて、
ビタにあるGembe Central、Gembe Eastという地域では、
6割の人が改良されていない湖の水を使用し、
9割の人が衛生的ではないトイレを使用しています。
今回のクラウドファンディングのプロジェクトはこのような地域で行います。

Between 7 May and 28 June, we participated in a crowdfunding project raising funds for improving agriculture in Mbita, Homa Bay County, Kenya. We were able to surpass our target of ¥2,500,000, raising 2,667,000 in total. Thank you for all your continued support in raising funds and raising awareness!
Homa Bay County is located next to Lake Victoria, and has a prominent aquaculture sector, as well as arable and pastoral faming, small businesses, and selling of firewood and charcoal.
The pertinent issues in this area includes:
-high HIV infection rate
-large number of families supporting orphans
-low development in areas of sanitation
Homa Bay County has a high HIV infection rate within Kenya, with the infection rate being 25.7% for 15+ year olds. In 2012, 110,000 children of every 1,000,000 children were affected by HIV/AIDS. In Homa Bay, around 60,000 families are supporting orphans, which is relatively high, compared to other similarly sized areas.
Furthermore, Mbita’s clean water and sewerage facilities are poor compared to other areas, with 60% of the population using unclean lake water, and 90% of the population using unsanitary bathroom facilities, in Gembe Central, Gembe East, both located within Mbita.
